Project Coordinator, The Global LPG Partnership

Position: Project Coordinator, full-time

Start Date: October/November 2017  

End date: 12 months from start date

Description: The Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating and reporting about all the field operations related to a microfinance pilot project for LPG start-up equipment between GLPGP, MUFFA (Mutual Finance Femme Afrique) and MC2 (Mutuelle Communautaire) microfinance associations (under Afriland First Bank) and local LPG companies operating in Cameroon. The project builds on a first pilot conducted in Batoke, Southwest Cameroon and will target 800 beneficiary households (urban, peri-urban and rural) across six regions of Cameroon. The successful candidates will interact with all project partners on a regular basis, travel to the pilot locations as necessary and ensure the smooth running of the project.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the micro-loans to promote LPG uptake in selected low-income urban, peri-urban and rural households across 6 regions of Cameroon where MC2 and MUFFA associations operate
  • Support the delivery of educational campaigns and cooking demonstrations in such communities to promote safe use of LPG
  • Have “hands on” general field implementation and monitor field operations over time
  • Interact regularly with microfinance partners to report loan repayments and refill purchases by beneficiary households timely to the GLPGP international team

Principal Duties:

  • Support the preparatory phase and the 6-month implementation of the LPG micro-loan project, representing GLPGP and coordinating with all project partners
  • Coordinate the selection of LPG stoves and assembling of the LPG package together with LPG companies partners in the project
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of community-level promotional campaigns about the benefits of using LPG to support the launch of the micro-loan project
  • Prepare monthly reports including key achievements against metrics to monitor project progress (e.g. repayment rate of loans, number of refills per household, etc.)   
  • Monitor the appointed village distributors to ensure they keep an adequate stock of cylinders on hand 
  • Identify and report promptly any implementation problem in any of the participating communities
  • Administer surveys or conduct interviews with beneficiary households
  • Interface effectively with GLPGP staff and all other project members involved
  • Complete multiple and changing work assignments accurately and timely

Required experience and skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated project management experience and ability to interact effectively with senior members of local associations and community members
  • Full IT proficiency and ability to report /analyze data
  • Experience in report writing
  • Excellent communication via email, phone and Skype
  • Competency in English and French
  • Exposure/general knowledge of the LPG and/or energy sector in Cameroon will be an advantage
  • Exposure/general knowledge of microfinance will be an advantage
  • Ability to travel to project locations
  • Strong work ethic

Remuneration: Competitive. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
