At GLPGP, we:
Create national LPG and bio-LPG plans. GLPGP partners with host country governments and other stakeholders to create national plans for rapid, sustainable scale-up of LPG and bio-LPG infrastructure, distribution and demand. GLPGP has developed National LPG Plans for Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ghana.
Help implement national LPG and bio-LPG scale-up. GLPGP then assists with financing and implementation of key national plan elements to transition the maximum viable population to LPG for cooking.
Create conditions for more affordable, accessible LPG. GLPGP collaborates with developing countries to establish the three main prerequisites for making LPG widely available and affordable:
Adequate government policies, regulations and regulatory enforcement to create the enabling environment for a viable, scalable, sustainable LPG sector.
Introductions to expansion capital to achieve critical mass of LPG supply (renewable and conventional), infrastructure and distribution systems quickly and sustainably.
Empowerment of developing country user capacity to pay the upfront cost of appliances to use LPG and to become additional long-term LPG demand. GLPGP has identified and defined approximately US$1.4 billion of potential LPG scale-up investments in four first-mover African countries, and around US$1 billion in other priority countries to date.
Design LPG-supportive financing mechanisms. GLPGP has pioneered the design and preparation of large-scale LPG-focused infrastructure funds and consumer finance programs for mobilizing blended public and private sector finance at scale.
Develop technology for producing green LPG (bio-LPG) at scale. GLPGP is leading the development of technology and industrial capability which will be able to produce LPG at scale from renewable resources such as municipal solid waste and agricultural residues. This bio-LPG will enable developing countries and their LPG sectors to have an energy transition that is both just and green.
Advise governments and other stakeholders on LPG sector development. GLPGP has provided national LPG sector development advice to Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, India, ECOWAS, the UN system (WHO, UNDP, World Bank and IFC, UNHCR, etc.), the EU, KfW, UK Modern Energy Cooking Services, and others. GLPGP senior staff serve as expert reviewers for International Energy Agency reports.
Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7). In the SDG 7 effort, GLPGP coordinates and collaborates with leading public health, climate, gender empowerment, environmental and impact investment organizations.
